Family policies
What families ask before the first day.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A student with a fever, or who was sick in the night, stays home until the next morning. A guide calls a parent when a student is unwell at school, and sends a note home when something is going around.
Drop-off and pickup
Families may drop off any time before the morning meeting at 8:30. The day ends at 3:00, and at 1:00 on Fridays. A guide meets each family at the door, and only the adults on the pickup list may collect a student. We ask to see ID until we know you.
Closures for weather and holidays
The school closes for fall, winter and spring breaks and the usual holidays. When snow or ice closes the road, we text families before 6:30 am.
Leaving the school
We ask for a month's notice in writing before a student leaves. The enrollment agreement says how a month in progress is handled.
Screens and phones
Students do not use screens during the school day. A phone that comes to school stays in the backpack and is switched off.
What to wear and bring
Dress for the yard: layers, sturdy shoes and a change of clothes in the backpack. There is no uniform. Bring a water bottle and a lunch.
Meals, snacks and allergies
Families send lunch, and we eat together at the long tables or on the porch. A water jug is kept filled. Tell us about allergies at the visit; we ask privately once you enroll.
Absences and late arrival
Tell a guide by 8:00 am if a student will be out, by phone or text. Families choose three, four or five days, so the guides plan the week around the days each student comes. A student who arrives late joins the work in progress.
